Home Assistant Community Day is on 7 November: what it is, and the ESPHome Starter Kit
Local meetups around the world will mark Home Assistant Community Day on Saturday 7 November. The ESPHome Starter Kit, designed to let beginners build their own devices without soldering or coding, makes a good conversation starter.

The Open Home Foundation has set Community Day 2026 for Saturday 7 November. It is not a single conference: it is a day of local, in-person meetups organised by community members in cities around the world, with no fixed format. Typical activities include swapping hardware, showing off automations, and running quizzes or short presentations. Topics span Home Assistant, ESPHome, Music Assistant and the wider Foundation community.
How to take part
Meetups are listed on Luma (search for Community Day 2026). You can find one near you or, if there is nothing close by, volunteer to host. The Foundation has a host playbook and a Discord channel for organisers. The page does not name speakers or publish a programme, as each event sets its own.
The ESPHome Starter Kit
In August, the Home Assistant team announced the ESPHome Starter Kit, ESPHome's first official product, designed by Apollo Automation. It is described as the easiest way to start building your own smart home devices, and requires no soldering or coding. The announcement we reviewed does not list the kit's contents or its price, so check the ESPHome and Home Assistant sites for current details before ordering.
Why it matters: ESPHome devices run locally and talk to Home Assistant without a cloud account, which fits the aims of anyone building a home that keeps working when the internet does not. A beginner-friendly kit lowers the barrier considerably.
What else is coming
The latest release is Home Assistant 2026.10, published on 7 October. The Home Assistant blog does not yet mention a 2026.11 release, so we will cover it when it is announced. It also states that the Cloud rename to Home Assistant Link is planned for the December release: see our explanation.
Bring this to a meetup
- A Matter or Zigbee device you cannot get to behave (our Zigbee guide may help).
- An automation you are proud of, or one that keeps misfiring.
- Spare hardware to swap.
