On 13 October 2026 the Home Assistant team announced that LEDVANCE, the lighting company spun out of OSRAM in 2016, has joined the Works with Home Assistant programme. The headline figure is 116 certified devices, sold mostly under the OSRAM SMART+ name.

What has actually been certified

According to the announcement, every certified LEDVANCE product connects using Matter over ordinary Wi-Fi, so there is no hub, bridge or proprietary gateway to buy. The range covers bulbs, spotlights, downlights, ceiling and wall lights, floor lamps and LED strips, most of them tunable white or full colour, plus IP-rated outdoor lights, a SMART+ plug and smart wall switches. The devices were tested against Home Assistant's certified Matter integration.

What the badge means

Works with Home Assistant is not a marketing sticker that anyone can print. Certified devices must deliver the functionality you would expect inside Home Assistant, work locally without a cloud account, and carry on doing so over the long term. The last point is the important one: a manufacturer that signs up is committing not to quietly move a bulb behind a subscription or an app login a year from now.

Why Matter over Wi-Fi is a sensible choice for lighting

  • No extra hardware. Nothing to plug in beside your router, which keeps the cost of a first bulb low.
  • One standard. The same bulb can be shared with Home Assistant, Apple Home, Google Home or Alexa at once through Matter multi-admin.
  • Local control. Commands stay on your network, so lights keep responding when the internet is down.

The trade-off is the usual one for Wi-Fi: a house with 40 bulbs puts 40 more clients on your wireless network, and a poor router can struggle. Thread-based bulbs behave better at that scale, which is why our Zigbee guide still matters for large installations. For a flat or a few rooms, Wi-Fi Matter is perfectly reasonable.

What to do

If you were already planning to add lights, the certification makes LEDVANCE a safe, local-first option. If you own older Zigbee SMART+ products, nothing changes: this announcement covers the Matter-over-Wi-Fi range only. Check the individual product's Matter support before buying, and pair it using the Matter integration rather than a vendor cloud.

Also coming: Community Day on 7 November

Home Assistant has also announced that Community Day returns on Saturday 7 November 2026. The organisers have not yet published a programme, so watch the official blog for details. Home Assistant 2026.11 is due in the first week of November as well, and we will cover it when it lands.
