Samsung's Micro RGB TVs: what the R95H and R85H claims do and do not tell you
Samsung's UK newsroom describes its Micro RGB range as a new standard for picture quality. We separate the confirmed facts from the marketing before you buy in the Black Friday sales.

Samsung's UK newsroom published a piece on 25 September called "Samsung's Micro RGB TV Sets a New Standard for Next-Generation Picture Quality". It is a press release, so it tells you what Samsung wants you to know. If you are comparing sets before Black Friday (27 November), here is how we read it. For the wider technology picture see our OLED, QD-OLED, Mini LED or RGB Mini LED buying guide.
What Samsung confirms
- Models: the R95H and R85H series, in sizes from 55 to 115 inches.
- The technology: a backlight built from red, green and blue LEDs smaller than 100 microns that emit light independently.
- Glare Free: available on the R95H only. A footnote says it was verified by UL against CIE UGR and ISO test standards.
- Sizes in the UK offer: a separate Samsung Week post lists the R95H in 65, 75 and 85 inches.
What Samsung does not tell you
- No UK prices and no on-sale date in the release.
- No measured colour figure. Samsung says it "set an ambitious target" of 100% BT.2020 coverage, which is a target, not a result. A footnote says the TV was evaluated against VDE criteria and certified for "Micro RGB Precision Colour", but no coverage number is given.
- No brightness or contrast numbers behind phrases such as "stunning brightness" and "precise contrast".
- The ranking claim: the release cites Omdia market-share data for 20 years of leadership, and notes that Omdia does not endorse the claim. We discussed it in our piece on Samsung’s 20 years as the best-selling TV brand.
Offers to know about
Samsung's "Samsung Week" post (16 October) described cashback of up to £500 on selected TVs, including the 85-inch R95H and the 83-inch S90H with the Q990H soundbar. The purchase window ran from 23 September to 27 October and the claim window was 30 to 60 days after purchase. That purchase window has now closed. The post names no Black Friday dates.
How to buy sensibly
- Wait for independent measurements of brightness, colour volume and reflections before paying a premium.
- Check whether the model you see is the R95H or R85H, because Glare Free is R95H-only.
- Compare against OLED, which our 111-inch OLED piece touches on from the supply side.
- If you have a bright living room, test reflections in a shop rather than trusting a specification sheet.
Still to verify: UK prices, launch dates and measured performance.
